Jack Vessalius, after so many years of waiting, finally managed to complete his dream and drag the world down to the abyss.
But it did not go entirely as planned.
In an event which came to be known as the Reset, the abyss struggled to hold the entirety of the world within its confines, and had a reaction unlike that of the body fending off an infection. Unable to handle such a huge stress, the Will of the Abyss completely ejected everything in the abyss back into the upper dimension, without regard for whether or not it belonged in there or not. The world was returned to its original state, but those who had died had come back to life. The natural order of things was upset by this sudden change, but aside from the return of figures who had long since died, nothing else seemed to have altered.
At least to the unobservant eye.

It has been a year since the Reset, and things have begun to settle down now, the world proving remarkably resilient and putting itself back in order. However, new difficulties have sprung up. Due to the return of, for example, the entire Nightray household, internal animosities have sprung up within the family members. Old Glens are also back, which has thrown the Baskervilles into some disarray. The world also knows now of Jack's involvement with the Tragedy and the Reset, which has tarnished the shining Vessalius name. Around the world, some of those who have died have come back as if they had never perished. While this seems like a happy occurrence, it has caused more tension than was foreseen.
Something else has changed as well - the upper dimension and the abyss are more closely connected. Descending into the abyss is now possible, but only into the first layer, and only with extreme precautions taken to ensure return. For this reason as well as the immense danger of doing so, few attempt it. However, it has opened up new possibilities of exploring and understanding the mystery of the abyss for those brave, or foolish, enough to risk it.
As the rest of the world continues to right itself and deal with the new complications provided by the Reset, in the shadowy forests of the countryside, a new power rises.
In its violent reaction to the second Tragedy, the abyss also ejected something it never should have released. For you see, Alice and Alyss were not the only children of Lacie and Revis. There was a third child, who was deemed exceedingly dangerous as soon as it was born and locked away in the deepest recesses of the Abyss, unknown to all but Lacie herself.
Known only as the Mock Alice, this creature now heads an organization in the upper dimension known as Pyrrha. Under the noses of everyone else in the land, it has gathered followers for its one purpose: to return the abyss to the shining land of golden light it once was. But to do this, it must destroy the entire upper dimension, one piece at a time. After all, it is the vice and hatred of those who live in the upper dimension, the Mock Alice believes, that keeps the abyss the dark place it is.
Already, Pyrrha has extended its influence to the Baskerville house, whose goal has always been the same. They believe that the sacrifice of the upper dimension will turn the Abyss back, and grant them all salvation within its golden depths.
But will it?
